Betting against my alma mater, final roundup!

Purdue once again after covering got a reasonable line this week. Indiana was 10 point favorites in West Lafayette.  I was out of town for the weekend, which was fortunate since my home internet went out for 3 days and my phone data was throttled because of German bureaucracy. Lucky for me, from the play by play it appears I didn’t miss a whole lot. IU got out to a big lead and didn’t look back, easily covering and giving Purdue it’s 6th loss against the spread this year.

So that’s it, the experiment is over. The lines early on were gifts, but as the season progressed there was quite the shift. Purdue failed to cover for almost every game in the first half of the season, and nearly covered all in the second half as the oddsmakers realized how terrible the Boilermakers are.

Overall, I ended up slightly down, due largely to the taxes imposed on gambling by the German government. If I had lived in a more bettor friendly nation, I would be up around 5 Euro this season. But the taxes exist, and I had to pay them, so I ended up down just a little more than a Euro. The cruel twist of irony, the exact amount I was down? 1.51.

I could use some 151 after this Purdue season.

Who knows what I will do next year, but it seems unlikely that I will continue this “tradition.” It was done mostly in response to the unbridled optimism by Purdue fans prior to week one, when I realized that fundamentally little had changed in the past year. Ultimately I was right, though should’ve chosen straight up victory to prove my point. That being said, it was certainly a lot more interesting with the lines in play, especially with the late pick six in week one giving Marshall the cover.  Hopefully, next year, I can put my money in the “Hire (coach du jour)” fund. Hopefully.
