College Football

Week ten saw average attendance plummet move back up from 21,520 to 23,348 across all of Division I, the level where it had been for the few weeks prior to last week. But we also had two games under 1,000 fans. Let’s take a look at how everyone else fared, shall we? Worst overall Division I attendance: 524 – Holy Cross vs Lafayette. Not many people were interested in heading out to Worcester to see the Crusaders face off against the Leopards. Those that didn’t show up made the right decision as Lafayette took the W home 23-20. An action […]

NCAA Football 2019 Attendance, Week 11: Smallest Crowd of the ...

Week ten saw average attendance plummet by 1,500 from 23,087 to 21,520 across all of Division I, with Texas A&M being the only team with a 100,000 seat stadium playing at home last week. Let’s take a look at how everyone else fared, shall we? Worst overall Division I attendance: 934 – Robert Morris vs Long Island. Fewer than 1,000 fans turned out to see Robert Morris win their fourth straight game, this one over D1’s newest football team the from Long Island. One could even call them… the baby… Sharks. A 28-17 win sent the home fans away with […]

NCAA Football 2019 Attendance, Week 10: November Cooldown

Week nine saw average attendance drop by nearly 1,000 from 24,044 to 23,087 across all of Division I, largely on the back of poor weather throughout the midwest, I’m guessing. Five games were below 10,000 in the FBS, three in the MAC and two in Conference USA. Let’s take a look at how everyone else fared, shall we? Worst overall Division I attendance: 878 – Valparaiso vs Stetson. A pouring Saturday with temperatures in the 40s to see a non-scholarship D1 team in a 19-10 slogfest that at least the home team won. So surely someone was happy about going […]

NCAA Football 2019 Attendance, Week 9: Sub-1000 FCS Game

Week eight saw average attendance rise slightly 24,044 from 23,922 across all of Division I, even with rain dominating the southeast on Saturday. Even still, some teams struggled to draw more than 20,000 in FBS last week. Let’s take a look at how everyone else fared, shall we? Worst overall Division I attendance: 1,158 – Delaware State vs Merrimack. Delaware State is the 6th worst team in FCS, so it’s no surprise that nobody wanted to show up to see them play first-year-in-FCS Merrimack, who took home the 30-21 victory, the Warriors first FCS opponent win since moving up this […]

NCAA Football 2019 Attendance, Week 8: Rainy October Saturdays in ...

Week seven saw average attendance drop from 24,777 to 23,922 across all of Division I, even with with LSU and A&M hosting more than 100,000 folks, with a much better result in Death Valley than at Kyle Field for the home fans. With that, the SEC took both the top and bottom of attendance for Power Five conferences, as you’ll see below. Let’s take a look at how everyone else fared, shall we? Worst overall Division I attendance: 1,268 – Bryant vs Long Island. Bryant frequently is at the bottom of attendance in both basketball and football, and this week […]

NCAA Football 2019 Attendance, Week 7: SEC! SEC!

Week six saw average attendance drop from 25,909 to 24,777 across all of Division I, helped by a couple of games that were over 150% of stadium capacity in the Northeast. Don’t tell the fire marshall! Let’s take a look at how everyone else fared, shall we? Worst overall Division I attendance: 1,328 – Arkansas-Pine Bluff vs Lane. Homecoming in Pine Bluff might not have gone as hoped, with only 1,328 fans showing up to see the Golden Lions barely edge out the Lane Dragons of D2. So few people were there, there isn’t even a shot of the crowd, sad! […]

NCAA Football 2019 Attendance, Week 6: Over Capacity

Week five saw average attendance rise from 25,909 from 24,173 across all of Division I, as it seems we’ve finally found the bottom of attendance now that conference play has started for many teams. Let’s take a look at how everyone else fared, shall we? Worst overall Division I attendance: 1,300 – Stetson vs NC Wesleyan. Thirty fewer fans showed up this week at Stetson than last week as the Hatters defended their lowest-attendance title without a problem this week. Stetson hosted North Carolina Wesleyan College, a D-III school, and the fans couldn’t have cared much less, even if the Hatters […]

NCAA Football 2019 Attendance, Week 5: The Worst Matchup of ...

Week three saw average attendance drop from 28,896 to 24,173 across all of Division I, another step down from the first three weeks of the season as one would expect. It’s worth noting that D2 Truman State hosted Valparaiso last week, and managed not only to outdraw ten other FCS games, but absolutely stomped the Crusaders 38-7 sending the fans home happy. Meanwhile, disappointment in Pensacola is clear as Florida State had the lowest percentage of capacity attendance of any Power Five school. Let’s take a look at how everyone else fared, shall we? Worst overall Division I attendance: 1,330 – […]

NCAA Football 2019 Attendance, Week 4: FSU Fans Fed Up

Week three saw average attendance drop from 31,002 to 28,896 across all of Division I, another step down from the first week of the season as one would expect, but on a percentage basis, there were very few empty stadiums. But let’s take a look, shall we? Worst overall Division I attendance: 1,362 – Bryant vs Fordham. Bryant athletics aren’t doing so great, often appearing at the bottom of our weekly basketball attendance charts. The Bulldogs made their first appearance this athletic year, but in a twist it’s in football! A rainy, dreary day left the stands quite open: Worst overall […]

NCAA Football 2019 Attendance, Week 3: Packed Houses

Week two saw average attendance of 31,002 across all of Division I, a step down from the first week of the season as one would expect. The biggest home crowd to see a loss has been set at 98,763 as Texas came up short at home against LSU on Saturday. As for the rest of D1, let’s take a look, shall we? Worst overall Division I attendance: 1,264 – Presbyterian vs Mercer. After this showing, I’m not sure many Blue Hose fans will be in attendance for future games. Down 42-0 at the end of the 3rd, the Bears stomped Presbyterian […]

NCAA Football 2019 Attendance, Week 2: Two in a Row ...

Week one couldn’t have asked for better crowds. A Labor Day weekend with big crowds from coast to coast, with only one game moved (unnecessarily, mind you, Florida State) due to weather, down from the last two years. The season has begun, what are we waiting for, let’s take a look, shall we? Worst overall Division I attendance: 2,988 – Fordham vs Central Connecticut State. Perhaps it was the new FCS team down the road at Long Island, the former LIU-Post merged with LIU-Brooklyn to become the Sharks, or maybe it was the lack of a big-name draw in CCSU, but […]

NCAA Football 2019 Attendance, Week 1: Full-ish House

2019 Georgia Bulldogs NCAA Football Travel Schedule
Every fall, the college football season fires up and gives fans an opportunity to eschew responsibility in favor of sitting on the couch every Saturday for 15 weeks. What a time to be alive.  With 838 games on the docket for the regular season, plus conference championships and bowls, all of our couch time comes at the expense of plenty of travel for all 130 FBS teams this season. Like always, I took a look at every team’s away and neutral site schedule and determined how much travel is necessary for each team. The list uses a handful of assumptions that I’ll hit […]
