My wife got her first dose of a “real” Purdue loss last night after the Boilermakers lost in double OT to a 12th seeded Little Rock team, so for those of you who aren’t Purdue fans, I thought I’d initiate you into what it’s like being a Purdue fan. So with that: welcome to our misery.
Hey look, I got into Purdue! Guess I should start following them. I heard they might be decent this year.
Three weeks later
Ah damn, our football team was crap, but basketball season is starting up! Heck, we’re projected to be at the top of the Big Ten this year!
That February, in conference play:
Dang. We really fell apart in February. At least I have a few months off before I have to think about Purdue sports again. But I’ve been reading that the football team is getting some real good talent! We got a JuCo QB transfer who was a four star recruit in high school!
F it, we’re a basketball school. Can’t wait to build off of last year. We have all sorts of big guys, the only thing that could stop us this year is injuries.
That very next March…
We would’ve won the National Championship if we didn’t have that damn ACL injury. How do we get so many ACL injuries? Anyway, football season is coming up, this is the ABSOLUTE LAST CHANCE I WILL GIVE THIS TEAM. They looked REALLY good against our Week 1 opponent.
Six weeks later…
THAT IS IT. I AM DONE WITH THIS SCHOOL. FIRE THE AD, FIRE THE COACH, BURN THE STADIUM DOWN.
Meanwhile, the basketball team has started the season 11-0 and Lunardi is projecting them a 2 seed.
OK, finally we are where we should be. I’m really excited for this NCAA tournament. We have a good seed, we just have to watch out for that team that runs a full court press.
That week, against said team
Fuck this team. I need to make sure I submit the paperwork to have my liver classified as a Superfund site, otherwise I might have the EPA on my ass. But hey, at least we have a new football coach to look forward to!
3 non-conference wins later:
I am ALL IN on this new coach. He is really a winner. Exciting times ahead for Purdue football!
Six weeks later, after a game against Wisconsin, dropping Purdue to 0-6 in conference:
Well, it’s his first year. Plenty of positive to build off of. And at least going into basketball season I know this team is young so my expectations are low.
Three games in to the season, vs Wofford:
Well, what could I expect. This team is young. We have a lot of momentum with the football team though! Can’t wait to see what they do this season.
Literally week 1 against a MAC opponent:
I HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF THIS DAMN SCHOOL. FIRE THE AD, FIRE THE COACHES, TURN THE STADIUM INTO A LABORATORY OR SOME SHIT I DON’T CARE.
That very next March, after a promising basketball team gets into a tournament, fully healthy and poised to make a deep run, in the first damn game of the tournament:
