Another week of dismal MLB attendance. The Miami Marlins couldn’t break 6,000 on a Friday. Insert obligatory Jeets joke here.
Wow. So with that, the Marlins were outdrawn by FIFTY NINE minor league games last week. But they weren’t the only ones outdrawn by minor league teams:
MLB teams outdrawn by AAA teams: Kansas City (below 1 AAA game) Cleveland, Pittsburgh (Below 4 AAA games) Chicago White Sox (below 6 AAA games) Cincinnati (all below 13 AAA games), Baltimore (below 19 AAA games), Miami (below 38 AAA games)
MLB teams outdrawn by AA teams: Miami (below 14 AA games)
MLB teams outdrawn by A teams: Miami (below 1 A-Adv and 6 A games).
Those last two lines are what happens when you can’t draw over 6,000 fans. Four teams drew below 10,000 in their lowest attended game of the week. Six never saw crowds bigger than 20,000 on the full week.
With that, these smaller crowds are being treated to three hour baseball games. The average remained at the three hour mark, down from the usual 3:05-3:10 from 2017. So with ample room to spread out and a relatively quick game by baseball standards, now is the time to head to the ballpark it seems.
Temperatures remained relatively straight down the fairway with no big outliers, though many in the north will be happy to have the opportunity to not have to sit through 37 degree baseball games in May.
Ejections remained a runaway for the NL with the lead holding at 19-9. It seems neither temperatures nor tempers are getting very hot thus far this year.
