Below the Box Score: Fast Baseball - A new low! Week of 5/2

The story this week is FAST BASEBALL, with lots of new records being set this week in regards to pace of play.

First off, the Dodgers and Padres played on Sunday and completed the entire ordeal in a mere 127 minutes, becoming the quickest game of the year so far. This was a 1-0 affair for the Dodgers, on the back of Clayton Kershaw. Kershaw gave up only three hits over nine innings, and contributed at the plate with one hit and an RBI, the game’s only run. Six total hits and two walks meant that not much action took place on the basepaths. In fact, not much took place at the plate, Kershaw’s CG went only 101 pitches.

In other pace of play news, the Rays this week managed to conclude every game before the three hour mark, the first team to do this over the course of a week. With the shortest game clocking in at 2:37 and the longest 2:52, the Rays were consistent in getting folks home in time for the late local news. They even managed to go 3-3 on the week, despite not scoring more than four runs in a single game. On the other side of things, the Brewers made sure there was plenty of baseball to be played, as they didn’t play a game shorter than three hours last week.

After setting a new season high last week in ejections, we’re back this week with EVEN MORE. Seven were ejected this week, including two instances of multiple ejections on one call (player and then the manager). Both the Marlins and the Rockies had double-ejections, which gives the Marlins the season high for ejections, with three.
