Dodgers Draw 5000 More in Lowest Attended Game Than A's Entire Series: Below the Box Score, Week of 6/6

The story this week is the Dodgers, who have drawn impressive numbers in a city known for it's fan fickleness. In fact, as the headline mentions, the Dodgers drew a minimum of 46,366 this week. Meanwhile, up I-5, the Oakland A's drew 41,361 fans... in three games. In fact, the Cardinals also outdrew the A's series with their lowest attended game this week, drawing 43,560. Factor in the maximum attended game of the week and you can add the Orioles and Cubs to the list of teams that in one game outdrew Oakland's three games. Even still, once again the Indians win the title for lowest attendance this week, drawing 10,428 for a Tuesday matchup against the Rangers, with no NBA game in the equation. Though still, later in the week the Indians were able to draw 24,753, a sign that attendance is continuing to creep up as the summer rolls in. The Athletics, Indians, Braves, and Marlins all averaged fewer than 20,000 fans this week, while the Cardinals and Dodgers drew above 40,000 on average. Speed of the game this week was rather consistent, with the city of Chicago taking the trophy home for longest and shortest average games. The North Side averaged a mere 2:45 with the Cubs shortest game coming in at 2:25 and longest at 3:00 flat. The South Side averaged 3:19, on the back of this week's longest game, a 13 inning, 4:41 game against the Mets. Every other team averaged within a 30 minute window, which Commissioner Manfred will be happy to see. In an almost perfect distribution, 14 teams averaged below 3:00 and 15 above, with the Reds sitting right at the three hour mark. Weather continues to be amazing throughout the country, with the average temperature for every team falling between 67.5 and 81.1 degrees, few fans would have much to complain about. Coupled in with only one "windy" game, 21 MPH between the Twins and the Rays, you'd be hard pressed to find an excuse not to be sitting in the ballpark in prime weather season. And finally, everyone's favorite section: ejections. Only three this week, which is a drastic cut back from the 18 we had just a few weeks ago. The AL got two, while the NL got one, not changing much as the AL continues its dominance over the NL, 40-27. In short, this week in baseball was incredibly average, from weather, time of game, and with few ejections. Here's to hoping that it gets a little spicier this week.
