College Football

Time again for your week in review on NCAA Division I Football attendance.  Average attendance was 29,850 this week, a good starting point for the season. Let’s take a look, shall we? Worst overall Division I attendance week 1: 1,632 – Stetson vs Point University. Not a whole lot on offer for fans of the Hatters as they started off the season against some of the NAIA’s best talent in Point University. Only 1,600 fans showed up to see Stetson lay down the 48-7 beatdown. A (small) action shot from the game: Worst overall FBS attendance week 1: 9,280 – Charlotte […]

2018 NCAA Football Attendance Week 1: KU Sends 20K Home ...

Every fall, the college football season fires up and gives fans an opportunity to eschew responsibility in favor of sitting on the couch every Saturday for 15 weeks. Beautiful.  With 844 games on the docket for the regular season, plus conference championships and bowls, all of our couch time comes at the expense of plenty of travel for all 130 FBS teams this season.   This season, I took a look at every team’s away and neutral site schedule and determined how much travel is necessary for each team. The list uses a handful of assumptions that I’ll hit on below, but the […]

2018 NCAA Football Travel: How Far Every FBS Team Will ...

With my beloved Purdue Boilermakers having played the Arizona Wildcats in both basketball and football this year, the thought entered my mind after the Boilers took the Wildcats to the shed in basketball, “How impressive of a win would Purdue need in the Foster Farms Bowl to blow out Arizona in football worse than they blew out Arizona in basketball?”   Okay, it ended up being moot as Purdue choked away a big first half lead and won the game on a miracle catch by a guy from Paris, France.   But a moot point has never been enough to […]

A Look at Margin of Victory in College Football vs ...

Time again for your week in review on NCAA Division I Football attendance.  With FCS playoffs and conference championships mixed up with hurricane makeup games, there was plenty of action despite the relatively small number of games.  This will be our last weekly edition, though we will post a bowl result (assuming bowls report their attendance, which not all have done in the past).  Enough chit-chat, let’s get to it: Worst overall Division I attendance week 14: 4,401 – Sam Houston vs South Dakota – The Bearkats hosted the Coyotes of South Dakota and despite it being the second round of […]

NCAA Football Attendance, 2017 Conference Championship Week and FCS Playoffs

Time again for your week in review on NCAA Division I Football attendance.  Average attendance was up to 36,334 this week, on the account of it being rivalry week. This was the unsurprisingly the highest attended week of the year! Let’s get to it: Worst overall Division I attendance week 13: 2,385 – UNH vs Central Connecticut State. In the first round of the FCS playoffs, UNH managed to draw only 2,385 into the stands, and that seems to be on the high side from the picture below. Luckily for the home fans, they saw the Wildcats shut out the Blue […]

2017 College Football Attendance, Week 13: Rivalry Week!

Time again for your week in review on NCAA Division I Football attendance.  Average attendance was up to 26,460 this week, one of the highest levels of the season. Despite that, three of the lowest attended games of the year happened last week: two of them in the SWAC. Let’s take a look, shall we? Worst overall Division I attendance week 12: 789 – Alabama A&M vs Kentucky State. Copying the SEC model, it seems that SWAC teams play lower division teams this week, with Alabama A&M hosting D-II Kentucky State.  With only 789 in attendance, it might not have been […]

Time again for your week in review on NCAA Division I Football attendance.  Average attendance was up to 24,713 this week, around average on the season. Let’s take a look, shall we? Worst overall Division I attendance week 11: 1,191 – Robert Morris vs Bryant. For the second straight week, the Bryant Bulldogs appear on the lowest attended list, though this time it’s on the road at Robert Morris.  Only 1,191 showed up in Pittsburgh to see the Colonials get stomped by Bryant 42-17. Worst overall FBS attendance week 11: 6,603 – Northern Illinois vs Ball State. With only 6,600 fans […]

NCAA Football Attendance, 2017 Week 11: SEC Highs and Lows

Time again for your week in review on NCAA Division I Football attendance.  Average attendance was down to 24,210 this week, the second lowest average attendance of the year. Let’s take a look, shall we? Worst overall Division I attendance week 10: 1,136 – Bryan vs Sacred Heart. The Bulldogs managed to hold off Sacred Heart 48-45 in front of a few hundred fans. Unfortunately for Bulldogs fans, they can’t even be looking forward to basketball season, as they’re a routine contributor to the NCAA Basketball lowest attendance of the year list here on AMSTS. Worst overall FBS attendance week 10: […]

NCAA Football Attendance, 2017 Week Ten: 1-7 Kansas vs 0-8 ...

Time again for your week in review on NCAA Division I Football attendance.  Average attendance was up to 24,358 this week, the second lowest average attendance of the year. Let’s take a look, shall we? Worst overall Division I attendance week 9: 1,406 – Drake vs Davidson. Despite the small crowd, the Bulldogs took home the 17-12 win. The 1,406 in attendance was good for the 9th lowest attended D-I game on the year, and Drake’s smallest home crowd. However, Drake had played in front of a smaller crowd when they faced Marist (THE MIGHTY RED FOXES) earlier this season. Worst overall […]

NCAA Football Attendance, 2017, Week 9: MACtion, SMACtion

Worst overall Division I attendance week 8: 1,270 – Delaware State vs South Carolina State.  Delaware State hosted SC State with last place in the MEAC potentially in the balance. Luckily for the crowd of around 1,300, Delaware State pulled off the 17-14 win to get their first win this season and going 1-4 in conference, leaving 0-4 Savannah State alone in the bottom spot. Worst overall […]

Let’s take a look, shall we? Worst overall Division I attendance week 7: 946 – Valparaiso vs Marist.  49-15 Valpo With thunderstorms in the area, few wanted to see the STRONG AND PROUD MARIST FOXES come in to town, and for good reason. Valpo walked away with a 49-15 point lead in front of fewer than 1,000 fans, the first D1-hosted game this season to draw below four figures.  The […]
